History

I take a flexible and creative approach to history, blending multiple resources to bring the past to life. My main curriculum is History Quest, which I absolutely love! However, I quickly realized that a rigid five-day schedule wasn’t the right fit for us, so I chose to skip the study guide books. Initially, I planned to follow the guide, incorporating many of the suggested readings and activities, but as I started planning our units, I discovered so many other incredible resources that the guide mostly sat unopened after the first unit.

If you prefer a fully structured curriculum with engaging, ready-to-go activities, History Quest is a fantastic choice. But for us, a more open-ended and adaptable approach works best.

I teach history by following the timeline of humanity, era by era, using a World History Encyclopedia as our foundation. Our learning is structured through unit studies, with History Quest serving as a guide to ensure we cover key concepts. I weave in a variety of reference books, hands-on projects, and immersive resources to enrich each unit, making history feel dynamic and alive.

Here I share how I teach history to my 3rd grader and which curriculums and books I have loved to use.
