A Joyful February

A Joyful February: Stone Age Adventures, Baking Milestones & Homeschool Growth

February was a month full of learning, creativity, and sweet moments in our homeschool! From diving into fascinating Stone Age studies to celebrating Mathilde’s baking milestone, this month was all about embracing new experiences and enjoying the little things.

We also made an exciting math curriculum change and explored ways to simplify our home life after reading Simplicity Parenting. With so much to share, I’ve put together a full recap in my latest YouTube video—grab a cozy drink, and come join me for a homeschool chat!

Stone Age Adventures & Hands-On Learning

One of the biggest highlights of this month was our Stone Age unit study! There’s something magical about immersing ourselves in history through stories, art, and hands-on learning. We explored what life was like for early humans, created Stone Age-inspired crafts, and read some wonderful books that brought this time period to life.

History is so much more engaging when children can experience it beyond just reading! Seeing Mathilde light up as we talked about ancient tools, early cave paintings, and how people survived in the wild made this unit extra special.

If you’re looking for engaging ways to teach history, I highly recommend incorporating hands-on projects, storytelling, and outdoor exploration—it makes all the difference!

Mathilde’s Big Baking Milestone!

This was such a huge moment for Mathilde—she baked her first batch of cookies completely on her own! She measured, mixed, and handled everything with so much confidence, and the results were absolutely delicious.

I love seeing her independence grow, and baking is such a wonderful way to build real-life skills while sneaking in a little math, science, and patience. She was so proud of herself, and I was bursting with joy watching her take charge in the kitchen.

A Life-Changing Read: Simplicity Parenting

This month, I finally sat down to read Simplicity Parenting by Kim John Payne and Lisa M. Ross, and wow—it was exactly what I needed. The book focuses on creating a calm, intentional home life by reducing clutter, simplifying schedules, and protecting childhood from unnecessary overwhelm.

As homeschoolers, we naturally create a slower, more intentional rhythm, but this book gave me so much insight into how I can refine our days even more. It reminded me to embrace less stuff, fewer distractions, and more meaningful connections—a lesson I’ll be carrying forward as we continue our homeschool journey.

A Big Math Curriculum Change!

We also made an exciting switch in our math curriculum! After using Beast Academy for a while, we decided to transition to Kate Snow’s Math with Confidence, and it has been a wonderful change.

Both programs have their strengths, but I realized that Math with Confidence aligns better with where we are right now. It offers a gentle, confidence-building approach that makes math feel approachable and enjoyable rather than overwhelming.

In the video, I share more about why we made the switch and how it’s going so far!

Celebrating Love & Learning

February also brought us Valentine’s Day fun and some new seasonal unit studies. I love using holidays as an opportunity to weave in creativity, storytelling, and thoughtful activities. Whether it was crafting, reading heartwarming books, or just spending extra quality time together, it was a reminder of how much joy homeschooling brings to our family.

There is something so special about these everyday moments—the small joys, the little milestones, and the learning that happens naturally when children feel safe and supported. February was full of those moments, and I can’t wait to see what March will bring!
