Geography

We love maps and exploring the world and learn about different climates, cultures, and animals around the world and that fits perfect into different unit studies for us. I have also found so many great books and resources for teaching geography.

I feel the first thing to get when teaching geography is a globe and a world atlas and from there it is just exploring away. I got a small super affordable globe from Amazon that fits perfect in a little toddler’s hands. The second thing I did was to teach the continents — I wanted her to get a picture in her mind about where each continent was and their climate, animals, and different habitats.

Mathilde really wanted to learn French so I enrolled her in a class where they “travelled” to a new French speaking country every week and learned more about it. I really loved this approach to teach kids about the different parts of the world. My next adventure will be to cook through the world — getting different recipes from around the world and talking about the country they are from while cooking.
